In my last article I told you some of my story and how I stumbled on finding my true purpose in life. While it might be romantic to tell you that I always knew what I wanted in life and I fought my way into it… that would be a lie.
The truth of the matter is that for most of my life I had no earthly idea what I wanted and wandered around in a confused state trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together. However, the key was I was searching and refused to quit. I felt deep down inside that there was a reason I was here and was determined to find out what that was.
You may feel the same way I did but the bottom line is that you were put here for a reason as well. It doesn’t matter that you are or have been confused in the past. You and I are kindred spirits and are much more alike than we are different so you have a reason for being here too that will make a huge contribution to the rest of us.
Now, let’s get to the important part. What is your purpose? What are you passionate about?
The best way to go at this is to imagine God appearing to you and saying, “You have been so good and I love you so much that I’m going to do something very special for you. You will never, ever have to worry about money again.
I’m going to give you $50 million to start, and if you ever need more, all you have to do is snap your fingers and you’ll get as much as you want.”
Now, imagine that you already own several homes—on a beach in the islands, in the mountains, a ranch with horses, a villa in Italy, a chalet in France, a bungalow in Fiji, a penthouse in Miami, or wherever else you want them to be.
You also already have numerous cars—a Mercedes, a BMW, a Cadillac, a Land Rover, a Ferrari, a Bentley, a limo or whatever other car your heart desires.
You’ve taken many exotic vacations to wherever you desire, to the best beaches and the most beautiful mountains, to Europe, Africa, the Orient, the Caribbean and the Pacific Islands—anywhere you’ve ever desired to travel.
Now that you have it all and you’ve done it all, and you don’t really NEED anything else, what do you do with your life? What do you invest your time and your life in? Write a short paragraph describing your purpose, utilizing your gifts and talents to serve the greater good of all.
Use the guidelines below and remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect. You can refine it later and that’s one of the key things to understand about this philosophy. It’s a work in progress that you will keep refining and improving over the years, just as I’ve done mine. You will grow and change. You can’t be fulfilled and happy if you don’t.
Here are a few guidelines to help you be as effective as possible in writing your purpose statement:
1. Your purpose statement should be written in statements of being and doing (My purpose is to be ______ and do __________);
2. It should include yourself and others (Being for yourself and doing for others);
3. It should be stated in the positive (my purpose is “to be this and to do that” rather than, “to not do this” or “to not be that”);
4. Make it as simple and as brief as possible for maximum impact;
5. It should be something you can experience every day;
6. Do not use universals such as always, never, etc.;
7. Use words that carry a strong emotional charge for you.
When I first did a purpose statement, this is what I wrote:
My purpose in life is to be the best I can be and help as many others as I can to be their best.
It was pretty basic but I was finding my way. That first purpose statement served me well and was the basis for future growth and evolvement.
Today my purpose statement is: I live in conscious oneness with God and I am inspiring and empowering people to know their inner power, be free and live their Ideal Life enjoying love, abundance, wholeness and perfect self-expression!
As you can see, I’ve evolved. You will too. Life is a journey and if you’re not growing and expanding, you can never be truly happy.
Start writing your purpose statement now!
Read this purpose statement often to make sure it moves you, that it fires something within your soul. Your purpose statement should drive you to keep growing and expanding, while also helping you recognize your connection to others and the contribution you are making.
Remember, you can refine your purpose statement any time you become aware of new distinctions or your vision becomes clearer. If you’re reading it every day, you will receive insights that will help you refine it until it becomes your driving force in life.
Now that you’re starting to get clarity on your purpose in life, in my next article we will start working on how to design the life of your dreams on purpose. Many people think that this is impossible but I’m here to tell you from my own personal experience and those of 100’s of thousands of people I’ve worked with that you can be the architect of your own life and future but you have to take control and do it on purpose! So until then…

In my last article I shared with you some of my personal background to help you start understanding how we align with or miss our purpose in life and what a fine line the difference can be. As I mentioned, since I couldn’t decide what I wanted to be and lacked a dream that required an advanced education, I didn’t go to college.
Due to the high expectations that my family had for me due to my learning abilities I felt pressured to go into a professional career. Since I didn’t go to college that pressure eventually led me to into the insurance field, a very respectable professional career. I started in developing a clientele in the property and casualty arena, then added life and health insurance. I was studying financial planning when I was introduced to network marketing.
I wasn’t great in the insurance field because I didn’t like to talk about negative things like dying, being hospitalized or car accidents. I did like working with people, however, so I focused on helping them solve their problems with insurance and I did okay by most people’s standards, but I wasn’t fulfilled.
On the other hand, what I liked about network marketing was that I could continually talk to people about achieving their dreams and goals. I saw myself as a business consultant who helped people improve their lives financially.
The only problem I had was a great fear of public speaking (which is pretty much a game breaker in this industry). This stemmed from the fact that I had been laughed at in the second grade while trying to give a book report in front of the class. That event traumatized me and had paralyzed me from speaking in public ever since.
I told one of my mentors, who recruited me into the business that I didn’t like to speak in public. He said I wouldn’t have to do so, unless I wanted to and he would do the meetings for me. What he didn’t tell me was that after my first 3 or 4 meetings I’d have to take my people to meetings he was doing, wherever they might be!
So after going crazy chasing him all over 3 counties in South Florida to have him show the business to my prospects, the day came when I got tired of dragging my prospects all over town, following him to wherever he was doing business presentations. I told him I’d try doing meetings myself.
He said it was no big deal. All I had to do was make up some 3×5 cards with information I wanted to cover, tell people I was new at this and let them see how excited I was by the opportunity. He said it would all work out.
He also gave me a book called The Magic of Thinking Big and pointed out the chapter on how to overcome fear. The cure for fear it turns out (and you might want to add this to your philosophy of life) was, “Action cures fear.” In other words do the thing you fear and the fear will disappear!
I followed his advice, made the 3×5 cards and even gave myself a pep talk in front of the bathroom mirror as he had suggested. I got myself all pumped up, but as I walked out of the bathroom and tried to put the 3×5 cards in my pocket, they fell on the floor. To make matters worse, I had forgotten to number them. As I panicked, I heard the host of the meeting introduce me. I freaked out.
Seconds later, I stood in front of about ten people, opened my mouth to speak… and nothing came out! I finally started talking but my voice cracked. I sounded like a twelve-year-old girl in distress.
That night, I did a presentation that was supposed to take one hour… in about seven minutes. Then, I introduced my mentor as “the person who has taught me everything I know about this business” and he finished explaining everything I had forgotten in about forty-five minutes.
When he asked for questions, one guy actually said, “What do we have to do to get started? Because if that guy can do it, anybody can!”
That night, I became determined to succeed at public speaking. It took a while—at the beginning the only one who laughed at my jokes was me—but something kept driving me forward. I secretly had a deep desire to perform, but I also had a big fear of rejection and failure.
Remember, early in my life I was a performer. I was the star running back on the football team. I loved to sing and dreamed of being the lead singer in a band. The seed of the dream to be a public speaker was inside me.
I needed to build some confidence, develop my own speaking style and acquire the right skills. People say “practice makes perfect” but it’s really, “perfect practice makes perfect” and since I had some good mentors guiding me and some good speakers to model, I improved rapidly.
I did presentations day after day and even gave speeches in my car. After a while, I got really good at it.
Today, if you ask me what I love to do so much that I lose track of time and go into timeless awareness, it’s teaching people the universal principles of success—and doing it in public venues.
In fact, the larger the audience, the better I like it and the more fun I have. In the past twenty-eight years, I’ve spoken to several million people. I’ve put on events where we had over 67,000 people in a soccer stadium for two-day business and personal development seminars.
This is my purpose in life—to teach people how to achieve success, happiness and wealth. I’ve grown a lot, both personally and financially by pursuing my purpose. I’m on a constant journey, learning, evolving and coming into conscious oneness with my higher self. I know my purpose and am committed to use my talents to contribute to humanity.
The more I share and give, the more fulfillment and success I create in my own life. In a way, I feel like the lead singer in a band. I’m able to make people feel good and bless their lives by sharing my talents. It took a long time for me to figure this out but I didn’t really have anyone guiding me down this path.
I’m here to help you figure out what your TRUE purpose in life really is. Whatever it is has to resonate with you. It has to turn you on, light your fire, fire you up and drive you with a passion that cannot be quenched other than by you living that purpose!
In my next article I’m going to walk you through an exercise that will really help you get in tune with your passions and find your purpose in life. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing and living your purpose… anything else is trying to climb the ladder of success while its leaning against the wrong wall. And that only leads to frustration, confusion and burnout so stay tuned and until then…

The second step of the Ultimate Success Formula is all about defining clearly what you desire in life. To create your ideal life, you must know exactly what you want. In other words, what is your Point B? To begin, let’s start with how you define success.
Today I personally define success as the continued expansion of happiness by knowing who I really am and expressing ever-greater levels of life, love and beauty. It comes about as the result of living life by universal principles with an accurate philosophy of life that brings happiness and fulfillment.
How do we create this philosophy of life? In my experience, the best place to start is with our purpose. I believe we were all put on this earth for a reason and that reason serves the rest of humanity because in reality we are all One.
The way to find your purpose is to discover your true essence. As you learned in the last chapter, you are an individualization of God so your essence is Spirit. When you know this, you know that you are unlimited pure potential and have unlimited power to manifest what you truly desire.
Additionally, we have gifts, talents and abilities that are uniquely ours and there’s at least one thing you can do better than anyone else. When you’re doing this thing, you enjoy it so much that you lose track of time. You go into what’s called “timeless awareness.”
Since the expression of your talent serves a purpose that meets the needs of the rest of humanity, you will be living your “Point B,” your successful, happy life, enjoying perfect self-expression.
Have you discovered your purpose in life yet? One way to do this is to examine what you liked to do earlier in life before too much training and conditioning took hold. What did you want to be when you were growing up? Was it something you really loved to do, like dance, sing, play football or baseball, perform in some way or be a fireman, policeman, or doctor? Think about it a second.
Many people will tell you they wanted to be a lot of things but weren’t good enough at any of them. Most of us were not that disciplined when we were young, so we may not have discovered our true talents and gifts… but we all had tendencies.
To be truly great at anything no matter how much native ability you might have, you still have to do it over and over and over to perfect your skills. The greatest basketball player in history, Michael Jordan, wasn’t even a starter on his High School basketball team until his junior year!
We’re usually interested in certain things during our youth that are in the same general area of interest as our core purpose. We will need to hone our skills and develop the drive, discipline and vision to make the most of our gifts, but they usually are in view when we are young and developing.
For example, when I was a kid I wanted to be a football player and I also wanted to be lead singer in a band. I spent hours per day playing football pretending to be the star running back scoring numerous touchdowns every game. Then I’d go home at night and sign in my room pretending to be Paul McCartney signing all the top Beatles songs.
My parents strongly encouraged me to become something “worthwhile” and “respectable” (preferably an attorney) since I had a facility for learning but I really didn’t want to do that. Since I lacked a dream that required an advanced education, I didn’t go to college.
I guess all along I had this desire to perform and do something that people enjoyed watching and made them feel good! I had no idea back then that there were many ways to perform and produce these same feelings in others and myself in ways that would bless all of us which I’ll share with you in my next article.
So now its your turn… what did you like to do when you were younger. What activities made you feel good about yourself and enjoy life? What did you like to do and what were you relatively good at? You don’t have to have been a superstar at it just things list some things you loved doing and had some native ability at. Take a few minutes to brainstorm this with yourself, remember what you felt and really tap into those feelings.
In the next article in our series we will use these affinities to determine your purpose and get you on the road to achieving your dreams! Until then…

In my last article I asked you to really get honest with yourself and write down who you are right now, in other words your self-concept or Identity. This is who you really believe yourself to be right now based on your thoughts, beliefs and actions. Now, I want to take you through an exercise I call, The Future of Your Past Conditioning.
To get started, look at what you wrote down previously and now write down how the negative parts of your identity have affected you up to this moment in your life. To do this simply follow the guidelines by answering the pertinent questions below.
The Questions:
What has your identity, your belief about yourself cost you in terms of relationships with your loved ones?
What has it cost you in your relationship with yourself?
What has it cost you in your relationship with other people?
What has it cost you in terms of your physical body, your health, and your energy?
What has it cost you in your self-esteem, your self-worth, and your love for yourself?
What has it cost you in financial terms? How much money have you lost?
What has it cost you, this identity of yours, in terms of your career opportunities?
What has it cost you spiritually and emotionally in your level of happiness, joy and fulfillment?
What has it cost you in your relationship with your God?
Allow yourself to feel the pain, because the more you connect with it right now the better it will be.
Now I want you to focus on that pain and all of these feelings of inadequacy and think about how your life will be five years in the future if you don’t change and you keep being who you are right now with all of your shortcomings and failures. Stop reading for a minute and visualize that painful outcome and really connect with the pain.
******************************************************
Now that you’ve experienced the pain of not changing and going forward in life with the same old identity, realize that none of this has happened yet, and you are in time to change your future. So stand up and shake out your body, dust yourself off as if you fell and landed in a pile of dirt so you get rid of the negative energy from that visualization… this is important.
This is just a picture of what could be if you don’t change. You’re on a course to somewhere, based upon who you are today. But if you change, that destination will be totally different.
Are you now motivated now to start designing who you really want to be? Who you really deserve to be?
Remember:
God doesn’t make losers; God doesn’t make average; God only makes great. We choose to lose or be average.
A Future Created On Purpose
You don’t have to choose to lose—you can choose to win. You don’t have to choose average—you can choose outstanding. So right now, with this level of motivation, let me ask you this, Who do you really want to be in every area of your life?
Who do you want to be spiritually… emotionally… physically… as a man or a woman… as a spouse… as a parent… as a friend… for yourself… as a businessperson… financially?
What do you want to do with your life?
What is the purpose and passion that you’re committed to living?
What legacy do you want to leave behind?
Take a few minutes right now and really get clear about who you are going to be as a person for the rest of your life. I mean, really get honest as to who you would be if you could be anyone you desire to be. Then we’ll come back and have some real fun.
Stop reading for a moment and write down who you want to be.
**********************************************
Now that you’re clear on who you really want to be, let’s do an exercise that will help you to lock in your new vision and empower you to start living it daily. I call this one “Your Future Designed on Purpose.”
I want you to imagine that you are already the fantastic, successful, wealthy person you just finished describing. And, you have been living this way for five years.
How do you feel? What are you thinking?
How great is your life?
How great are your relationships?
How is your financial situation? Your career?
What emotional states do you live in regularly?
What kind of life have you created for yourself?
What vacations are you taking?
Where are you going? Who are you going with?
Where are you living?
What does your house look like?
Is it by the ocean, on a mountain, on a lake?
What do you do for fun?
What lifestyle do you have?
What abilities and skills do you have?
What do you do on a daily basis?
How have you positively affected your partner or spouse?
How of you positively affected your children?
How have you affected your important relationships?
How have you impacted the world positively?
What legacy are you creating?
Are you living your purpose?
How does it feel to live your passion?
How great is your life?
I want you to really feel those incredible emotions, the joy, the ecstasy, the passion, the success, the physical energy. How great do you feel? How much are you enjoying your life? What is it like?
Doesn’t it feel wonderful to decide who you are and create your own destiny? Stop reading for a couple of minutes, close your eyes and see, hear and feel what it’s like to be this new “Super You” with your new Identity. Really enjoy the feeling!
******************************************************
I want you to understand that if you can imagine it, you can attain it. The more you imagine it and feel yourself living that life and having that future, the easier it is to create it automatically.
Your assignment now is to take the exercise that you’ve done and write a statement of your new Identity, describing exactly the person that you now are with this new, chosen identity.
Write it in the first person permissive: “I allow myself to be…” or “I choose to be…” I teach it this way so there is no conflict with your subconscious mind saying “hey, this is b.s., it’s not true,” as you find yourself psychologically reversed again. By writing it this way you are choosing or allowing yourself to already be that person as you lovingly suggest to your subconscious mind to make it real.
Read this statement every morning upon arising and every evening before you go to bed. Remember, as you keep your attention focused on that which you choose or allow, you create it and make it part of your reality.
In the next article in our series we will learn how to begin to design your life on purpose to get more of what you want in life and achieving your dreams! Until then…
