In the past several articles we have been talking about how beliefs determine the reality you will live in your life. Beliefs have the power to easily make you super successful, rich and happy or they can also make you unsuccessful, broke and miserable. The Law of Life most certainly is the “Law of Belief” which is what the book “The Secret” failed at communicating effectively.
So if you have some beliefs (as we all do) that are keeping you stuck and preventing you from living your best life what can you do about it? If you’ve been following me for any length of time you know I’m about using effective strategies that produce immediate results so let’s dive into today’s topic! A very powerful and effective way to change beliefs is by using the “Table Top Belief Changer”. Remember, a belief is like a table with the top representing the idea or concept in question and the legs the references that support the idea and giving it its sense of “trueness.”
If you remove the references, you return the belief to an idea again and if you put new references or legs under it, you change it to a different belief. If the old belief you changed limits or restricts your success and you transform it into one that serves you instead, the new belief will produce better results in your life.
You can do this exercise with some of the other beliefs you wrote down and haven’t worked on yet. Let’s use one of my old ones for the example of this technique.
“You have to work really hard and sacrifice to succeed in life” (and the underlying pre-supposition was that it cannot be fun).
My parents used to say to me “Who told you that you can have fun all the time. In life you have to work hard and sacrifice to succeed and if you have any time left over, then you can have fun.” I accepted this belief when I was a young man and resigned myself to the (conditioned) reality that my work life would be dull and boring.
Draw a circle like a tabletop on a sheet of paper and take your belief and write it on the tabletop.
Now, consider where the belief came from and who repeated it to you.
Next, put the source of your belief on the legs you draw under the tabletop. For me it was my parents, teachers, priests, sports coaches, etc.
Now here’s where the rubber meets the road with this belief changer. One of the keys to changing beliefs is to question the validity of its references and in this case, the people who taught it to you. I’ve taught people for years that one of the biggest mistakes you can make in life is to take advice from people who don’t have what you want in that particular area.
Look at your references, the people who instilled the belief in you, and ask yourself, do these people have the results I desire in my life in this area? Do I truly desire to emulate them and have a life like theirs? Will I be happy being and having the results they have?
Consequently, if you’re like me, here you are looking at a belief that’s limiting you and keeping you from being, doing and having all you can be, do and have, and the people it came from are not living the life you want for yourself. Since you don’t want to live there, why should you have that belief? It’s not serving you in any way!
You simply eliminate the references that came from people who do not have the results or the life you want. It’s that simple. If they don’t have what you want, you eliminate that reference as Not Valid!
In my example, none of my references had anything near to the results I desired in my life, so why should I take their beliefs and limitations as true and make them mine? I shouldn’t and I decided not to, so I removed all of those references. That left me with the idea, “You have to work really hard and sacrifice to succeed in life,” which now has no valid references supporting it.
With my new found clarity I looked for a new belief that would empower me to get what I desired in life. Ironically, I recalled that in everything I’d read about great successful people, they loved what they did, did it with passion and became rich. This was totally the opposite of how I’d been programmed.
So I decided (key words here, my friend, it is by my choice now, not by conditioning) to create a new belief on purpose. My new belief is “To truly succeed in life you must do what you love with passion and excellence!”
Does it resonate with me? Yeah, it makes me feel good to say it and think about it. So now I look for references… Bill Gates, passionate about technology and software, loves what he does—Billionaire; Richard Branson loves what he does and makes it an adventure, definitely passionate about it—Billionaire; Oprah, definitely loves what she does and does it with massive passion— first Black Female Billionaire and one of the most influential women on the planet;
Wallace Wattles in the classic The Science of Getting Rich says to do what you love to do as there is no satisfaction in living if we are compelled to do something we don’t like to do. You will get rich more satisfactorily if you do what you love.
Jack Canfield is passionate about helping people live their purpose and teaches them how in his seminars, best-selling books and audio programs and he’s mega-rich; J.K. Rowling- passionate about writing and educating children creatively, passionate about what she does- Billionaire; Mark Zuckerberg is passionate about socializing and sharing information on the web and built a social media platform which now has over 1 billion users around the world- Billionaire. Donald Trump, even though I disagree with his dog-eat-dog philosophy, he is definitely passionate about what he does and loves doing it and he’s a Billionaire too.
Do you need more references? Because we could keep going and find tons of them. Why? Because this is a principle!
When you do what you love, you vibrate at a very high frequency, which attracts things that vibrate at high frequencies, and riches are one of those things that vibrate at high frequencies, as are all blessings and positive states.
You infuse love into everything you do, and since love is the most powerful force in the Universe, riches flow back to you multiplied many times over!
As your assignment today, I’d like you to take several of your limiting beliefs and change them using the Table Top Method. It’s very effective and will revolutionize your life. The more you use this highly effective strategy the easier it will be for you to change any belief that is limiting you and replacing it with one of your choosing that empowers you to achieve what you desire to be, do and have!
