We all go through times in our lives when we don’t feel very good. As I’ve taught you many times in these articles the reason you don’t feel good is you are thinking about what you don’t want in your life or fearing bad things will happen. A very valuable skill to acquire is that of interrupting your negative thought patterns. The key is to catch yourself any time your self-talk goes negative or you start worrying.
Do you remember when people would wear a rubber band around their wrist? Then if they said a bad word or did something they didn’t want to do, they snapped the band? Do you know of anyone who actually changed behavior using this technique? While I know numerous people who have, I’m not suggesting you inflict bodily harm on yourself every time you think negatively. Instead, let’s create a positive pattern interrupt to get your focus back on what you desire.
As soon as you notice you are worrying, say something like, “Hey, I’m worrying! I’m focusing on what I don’t want.” Which means, “I’m using the Law of Attraction in reverse to create pain in my life!” Then change your focus to what you desire. That’s why it’s important to clearly define who you are committed to being and what you’re committed to having. That way you’ve got some clearly defined objectives to switch your focus to quickly.
Create a few pattern interrupts that resonate with you in advance, so when you catch yourself thinking the wrong thing, you can break your pattern. This can be goofy and fun, depending on who you are, your style and sense of humor.
You can come up with any type of phrase that feels good to you. Maybe you want to be like superstar, Angelina Jolie. When you catch yourself doing something out of character, say, “This is so not Angelina.” Or if mega musician and actor, Justin Timberlake, is more your speed, you may say something like, “Why am I thinking this way? I need to bring sexy back.” Perhaps you prefer comic strip super heroes, so you may say, “I’m Iron Man. I’m not afraid of anything!” You get where I’m going with this?
You can also use a physical trigger which is why snapping yourself with a rubber band is so effective but you don’t have to inflict pain. It can be a tug on one of your ears or a pat on your butt, any unique physical action that you assign to be a pattern interrupt and use consistently to remind you to change your focus. So come up with at least 5 pattern interrupts that you can have ready to use any time you need them and let’s move on to the refocus side of the equation.
The Power of Gratitude and Happiness
Most people believe that when they are more successful then they’ll be happy. When they have more money then they’ll be happy. Or when their spouse treats them better or when they lose 25 pounds then they’ll be happy. Recent discoveries in the field of positive psychology and neuroscience are showing that the exact opposite is true. Happiness and positive thinking is what fuels success!
Shawn Achor spent over a decade at Harvard University, researching and teaching happiness to thousands of students. He then started a consulting firm to teach the principles he’d learned to Fortune 500 executives in over 50 countries. His research and real-world applications working with tens of thousands of people have proven beyond any doubt that happiness and gratitude definitely create greater levels of success in your life!
In addition to the statements and declarations you wrote in the homework I gave you in my last article, I find it helpful to also have at least 10 things you’re grateful for and make you feel really good. It can be your soul mate, your relationship with God, your children, your cat or dog, the sound of the ocean, a place you love to visit or something you love to do. It’s all about feeling good, grateful or happy and these things will raise your vibration quickly. When you vibrate at a high frequency, you attract other good things that are also vibrating at a high frequency.
Along with gratitude and happy thoughts, I’ve also developed a series of “Good Vibe Questions” to ask myself that immediately change my focus, raise my vibration and improve the way I feel. I originally learned these questions from Tony Robbins but have made my own modifications that I resonate more with over the years. These questions also are a great way to start or end your day feeling good and full of positive energy. Remember, what you attract into your life is based on your vibration.
These questions are a great way to raise your vibration anytime you’re feeling down or negative. They work like magic!
Remember, if you feel bad, you’re thinking negatively or you’re focused on what you lack. When you feel good, you’re thinking positively and are focused on what you’re grateful for and you desire. So manage your emotional states and maintain a high vibrational frequency to attract all good into your life. The key to this strategy is whenever you catch yourself feeling bad, immediately switch your thoughts to one of the things that make you feel happy or grateful or ask one of the Good Vibe Questions and you’ll immediately raise your vibration! So right now, write down 10 things you are grateful for or make you feel happy just thinking about them.
How are you feeling? I don’t know about you, but my heart is full after I focus on gratitude. Even when you are going through a difficult time, you can always find something to appreciate. If you’re stuck, start with your breath. Close your eyes, and as you focus on each intake and exhale of air, be grateful for this amazing function of your body. Every breath of gratitude will enable you to release any negative energy and lead you to recognize the other miracles in your life. So pay attention, and from this place of centeredness, you will open yourself up to extraordinary healing.
